Educated at Central Hawkes Bay College, Sam has a Bachelor of Education from Massey University and has studied at post-graduate level in Leadership and Management at Sheffield-Hallam University in the United Kingdom. He has also completed the Aspiring Principal Programme through the Ministry of Education and Massey University.
Sam and his wife Becks are both teachers with a strong belief in holistic education. He believes that the years spent at Preparatory School are the most important ones in a student’s education and development. The skills that are learned, the habits that are formed, the values and standards that are absorbed, stay with students not only through their time at Huntley but also into adult life as well.
During his years at Huntley, Sam has taught the Top year 7 stream, has been in charge of Boarding and Pastoral care, coached the Top VIII tennis and 1st XV rugby side, and founded and co-directed the very successful Huntley Rugby Academy. You’ll see him riding his bike in his spare time and he is a regular on the start line at the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
