Meet Quin

Year 8 student, Quin, is a gun hockey player and played in the Whanganui rep team with a few Huntley students two years ago.

“Hamish and Sam kept telling me how cool Huntley is and the more I hung out with them, the more I wanted to go.”

Quin’s parents helped him apply for the Betty Mayne scholarship and was awarded the scholarship to Huntley for two years.

Life at Huntley for Quin is busy, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

He’s a day student and travels over on the Whanganui bus each day.

“I’m in Mr Hall's class this year - the top stream Year 8 class. School work is pretty hard and we get a little bit of homework, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. Mum helps me.”

Quin made the 1st XI Cricket team this year and is also in the 1st XI Hockey team.

“I’m really into music too and play in the Huntley rock band. Hamish and I are the lead singers but I’m learning drums with Mr York so I might play drums next year.”

Ask Quin what he loves most about Huntley and he’ll tell you it’s getting to hang out with his mates and the fun they have.

“My friends and I spend our spare time in the orchard building our hut. We even get to sleep in it at the end of the year!”

And the food. He loves Huntley lunches.

Quin had his sights set on being a Prefect in his final year and was pretty excited when his name was read out.

“It’s cool to be a leader here.”

As for what the future holds?

“I want to be a fighter pilot when I grow up. I’ve always wanted to.”

We hope Quin’s time at Huntley puts him one step closer to that goal.
