Sam Edwards

Sam was appointed Headmaster in February 2015, following four years as Deputy Headmaster.

During his time at Huntley he has been active in all areas of the school – academic, sporting, cultural and boarding. He played an integral part with the introduction of girls to Huntley in 2014.

Educated at Central Hawkes Bay College, Sam has a Bachelor of Education from Massey University and has studied at post-graduate level in Leadership and Management at Sheffield-Hallam University in the United Kingdom. He has also completed the Aspiring Principal Programme through the Ministry of Education and Massey University.

Sam has represented New Zealand, Hawkes Bay and Manawatu in rugby, Hawkes Bay in touch rugby and Southern Hawkes Bay in cricket. At Huntley he has coached the Top VIII tennis and 1st XV rugby side and founded and co-directed the very successful Huntley Rugby Academy.

He and Becks are both teachers with a strong belief in holistic education that focuses on the whole child’s development.

As Headmaster Sam has a clear belief of preparing students for the adventure of life. Every student will have the opportunity to reach their potential academically, physically, socially, culturally and spiritually. He believes that the years spent at Preparatory School are the most important ones in a student’s education and development. The skills that are learned, the habits that are formed, the values and standards that are absorbed, stay with students not only through their time at Huntley but also into adult life as well.
Sam aims to instill within students a desire to strive for success, to face challenges head on, to expect high standards and to give their best in every endeavour.
